A Description in Real-Estate Speak

In realtor-speak this roomy Victorian Cottage would be described as a 4-bed, 2-bath single-family with 1880 sq. ft. of above ground living space, totally renovated with designer amenities like granite, marble, mahogany, a fully custom kitchen, a custom first floor laundry, a custom 2nd floor walk-in-closet, custom  bath and showers, custom built-ins. New roof, new boiler, whole-house water filter, custom built 19 x 17 ft. red paver patio, with a basement walkout.  Brand new stainless appliances including a gas stove, a custom sized dishwasher, a french-door fridge with filtered water and a freezer drawer below. A large high-ceilinged open basement ready to be made into your hobby-shop, workshop or studio with a full bulkhead walkout.

The way I describe it?  . . .  unique . . . a one-of-a-kind . . .  an antique 1800's home with sturdy old bones completely restored and renovated so that the buyer will be basically moving into a new house.

Later in this blog I will list all the amenities and everything that was done to bring this home back to its former glory. And before and after pictures.

Custom Made flower boxes adorn the living room windows.

Everywhere you turn you see custom, designer flourishes from decorative colors to fencing for privacy. The backyard is cool & shady with a large brick-work patio of red pavers to extend the living space outdoors.

A five color decorative paint-scheme accents the front entry and behind the red door lies a tiled mudroom with a coat rack.

A five color scheme decorates the welcoming front entry.

How about moving into the formal dining room for a while.  Enough with the damn kitchen!  The formal dining room is called the Red Room -- it stimulates the appetite -- and it has a chandelier on a dimmer switch.

Now we should look into a little master-bath action.  The master-bath has ceramic tile floors and a marble tiled shower and an antique built-in full size tub.  Have a look.

What is There & What was Used

The designer used many different materials in the restoration of 29 Locust Street that make the house unique in its details.

--

One of the most outstanding materials in the home are the original hardwood floors of fir, heartwood pine, and oak.  Redolent of age and character, with their scars and patina, the flooring grounds the house in its antiquity.

--

We found the original door to the 2nd floor bath room under a pile in the basement.  We took it apart, rehabbed it and reinstalled it with old style black hardware.

 --

Custom cabinetry encloses the Fridge which was placed where the stove once stood and before that a fireplace.

--

A five foot granite slab forms the counter-top beside the new gas stove.  The granite slab comes from Quanzhou City, Fujian Province which is China's foremost stone quarrying and processing area.

--

The back-splash consists of small glass tiles.  Sourced from the local Home Depot.  They were an exquisite find.

--

Utility track lighting illuminates the cooking area.  Designer track lighting illuminates the sink and the coffee bar.

--

The custom Coffee Bar  is a slab of African Mahogany planed, sanded and fitted to the wall.  It was sourced and milled in old growth Madagascar forest and transported by traders via riverboat to port.

--

The marble in both bathrooms was quarried in an ancient Chinese Quarry, alas, no longer in operation.

--

Quarter-sawn Red Oak trims the custom kitchen sink cabinetry. Custom built to allow ease of access to the stairway to the 2nd floor. Granite tile adorns the counter's surface.

--

The exposed beams in the 2nd floor bath are original to the dormer that was added at some point in the home's history.

 --

The built in shelving unit in the 2nd floor hallway is constructed of Cedar.

--

Designer lighting adorns the 2nd floor hallway with stained glass and retro designs.
